Deck builder planning for Bryn Mawr-Skyway properties

A deck project starts with the property and the way you plan to use the space. We look at the proposed footprint, walking paths, stairs, rail locations, support points, and nearby surfaces before setting the work scope.

Customers choosing materials should compare upkeep, appearance, fastening needs, and the condition of the supporting frame. Composite boards suit buyers who want a manufactured deck surface, while pressure treated lumber may fit a framed structure or a different design goal.

  • Confirm the deck footprint and how people will use the space.
  • Check joists, support points, and connection areas before board installation.
  • Compare composite boards with pressure treated lumber for the planned surface.
  • Plan deck screws and joist hangers around the frame design.
  • Review access, nearby work areas, and cleanup needs.

A final review gives you a chance to discuss visible work before the project closes.

Deck decisions that deserve close attention

Match the surface to the project

Customers weighing composite boards and pressure treated lumber should consider upkeep, appearance, fastening, and the frame below. Our carpentry team explains the fit during planning.

Check the frame before the finish

A new surface cannot correct weak joists or poor connection points. We review the supporting work before the deck boards are installed.

Know when deck building is not enough

Deck building is the wrong scope when the project only needs paint or a small surface touch-up. A painting or carpentry repair visit may fit that need better.

Process

Discuss the deck use and layout

2

Inspect the frame and support points

We check joists, connection areas, and existing carpentry before setting the surface installation scope.

3

Choose boards and fastening parts

We compare composite boards or pressure treated lumber and plan deck screws and joist hangers for the selected work.

We protect nearby areas, complete needed carpentry work, and install the planned deck components.

These guys did an awesome job! They have a well trained team that works closely together to get the job done on time and on budget. They also did a number of other repairs on the interior and exterior ( removed dry rot, repair drywall, etc.) before they could even start the painting. I would highly recommend them!

The team at 365 did a great job painting our house. They painted the full exterior of our house, including all the trim, front door, and garage doors. Their color matching was spot on, and the front door and porch trim finish is perfectly smooth. They even did a nice job with caulking as well.

Questions about deck materials and installation

What materials can you use for a new deck?

Composite boards are one material option for a new deck. Pressure treated lumber is another option for the surface or frame, depending on the design. Deck screws secure boards, while joist hangers support frame connections. The property layout, planned use, upkeep preference, and existing carpentry guide the final material plan.

How do you match a deck layout to the property?

The deck layout follows the property’s available space, access paths, intended use, and support points. Customers should share where people will enter, sit, and move around the deck. We review those details before planning the frame and surface. The estimate then reflects the actual layout instead of a generic deck shape.

Which parts change the estimate for deck work?

The deck footprint, frame condition, material choice, access, repairs, and connection details change the estimate. Composite boards and pressure treated lumber also call for different planning choices. We discuss the scope during a free estimate and identify what the work includes. No amount is stated until the project details are reviewed.

When should I request a deck assessment?

Request an assessment when boards shift, the surface feels uneven, fasteners loosen, or the frame shows damage. A deck assessment checks the surface and supporting carpentry before you choose repair or replacement. Customers planning a new deck should also request an estimate before selecting materials, since the frame and access affect the work plan.

Why do deck screws and joist hangers matter?

Deck screws secure the surface, and joist hangers support key frame connections. Both parts affect how the deck transfers weight through the structure. Our team checks these connection areas during planning and repair work. Customers should mention loose boards, movement, or visible gaps so the estimate addresses the frame as well as the surface.

How should I prepare before deck work starts?

Clear furniture, grills, planters, and stored items from the work area before deck work starts. Customers should also identify gates, entry paths, and nearby surfaces that need protection. We discuss access during the estimate and set the work area around the planned installation. This preparation helps the crew focus on the deck scope.
