Why is cabinet paint peeling from my doors?

Peeling cabinet paint often points to poor surface preparation, an unsealed edge, or a coating that did not bond well. The affected door or panel needs a close check before anyone chooses a repair. We review the material, remove loose coating where needed, and explain whether painting, refacing, or replacement fits the condition.

Cabinet Painting for Bryn Mawr-Skyway Properties

Cabinet painting is a material and condition decision, not only a color choice. MDF panels need sealed edges, while solid wood may show joints or grain that need careful repair. Laminate doors and veneer surfaces need a bond check before a coating plan is set.

The main buyer decision is whether the existing cabinet parts can support paint. We inspect doors, drawer fronts, frames, edges, hardware areas, and visible damage. If the cabinet structure needs replacement, refacing or carpentry may fit better than painting.

  • Identify whether each door, drawer front, frame, and edge is MDF, solid wood, laminate, or veneer.
  • Check peeling coating, worn edges, dents, cracks, grease, and loose material.
  • Decide whether repairs, refacing, or painting best fits the cabinet condition.
  • Confirm which hardware, nearby surfaces, and related work areas need protection.
  • Review the finish plan before preparation and painting begin.

What Cabinet Painting Changes in Your Kitchen or Workspace

Painted cabinet surfaces give worn doors and drawer fronts a planned, consistent finish.

Material checks help prevent a coating plan that does not fit laminate, veneer, MDF, or wood.

Careful preparation addresses dents, loose coating, and rough edges before paint is applied.

A written project plan helps homeowners, property managers, and commercial clients track the agreed scope.

How We Complete Cabinet Painting Work

1

Review the cabinet material

We identify MDF, wood, laminate, or veneer and check doors, drawer fronts, frames, edges, and hardware areas.

2

Write down the repair that was asked for

We note dents, cracks, peeling coating, worn edges, and other conditions that need attention before paint.

3

Protect nearby work areas

We protect related surfaces and coordinate access before cabinet preparation starts.

4

Prepare and repair surfaces

We complete necessary repairs and prepare the agreed cabinet surfaces in accordance with PDCA standards.

5

Paint the agreed surfaces

We apply the planned cabinet coating to the prepared doors, drawer fronts, frames, and other approved parts.

6

Inspect the finished cabinets

A lead paint crew member reviews the completed work with the customer during the final inspection.

Cabinet Painting Decisions That Protect the Finished Work

Material fit comes first

The cabinet material decides which preparation steps matter most. Painting is the wrong job when doors, frames, or panels need structural replacement.

Repairs stay part of the plan

Dents, cracks, worn edges, and loose coating need attention before paint. We identify those items during the consultation so the scope stays clear.

PDCA standards guide preparation

We prepare related surfaces in accordance with PDCA standards, then review the completed work with you before the project closes.

We had been putting off painting our house because there is never a great time to do so. After we decided to do it, we got 6 bids, some where very low, with low grade products, other very high with outrageous considerations, Jeff and his team came dead in the middle with amazing notes from the first visit, careful workmanship and with top of the line quality product. Scheduling was a breeze with Lorena make it so easy for us even with a busy schedule during the summer. The best experience we've had, we basically did not notice the team was working. They arrived every day super early, left the area pristine, and delivered a great quality outcome in the entire exterior job. We are super happy with the pain, the look and all the recommendation and fixes the team did. We will definitely work with 365Painting Solutions for all of our future painting needs. Thank you for making this experience simple and painless.

The team at 365 did a great job painting our house. They painted the full exterior of our house, including all the trim, front door, and garage doors. Their color matching was spot on, and the front door and porch trim finish is perfectly smooth. They even did a nice job with caulking as well.

These guys did an awesome job! They have a well trained team that works closely together to get the job done on time and on budget. They also did a number of other repairs on the interior and exterior ( removed dry rot, repair drywall, etc.) before they could even start the painting. I would highly recommend them!

Questions Customers Ask About Cabinet Painting

What cabinet materials can you paint?

MDF panels, solid wood, laminate doors, and veneer surfaces can all be considered for painting after inspection. MDF edges need sound material and sealing. Laminate and veneer need a bond and damage check. Solid wood may need repair at joints or worn areas. The cabinet condition decides whether painting fits or refacing is the better service.

Which cabinet problems change the estimate?

Cabinet condition, material, repair needs, access, and the number of painted parts change the estimate. Doors, drawer fronts, frames, edges, and hardware areas may require different preparation. We review those details during the free consultation and in-home meeting. The estimate then reflects the agreed repair, protection, preparation, painting, and cleanup scope.

How should I prepare for the cabinet visit?

Access to the cabinets helps us inspect the material and set the work scope. Remove loose items from the cabinet areas and identify hardware or nearby surfaces that need attention. We review protection needs during the visit. Homeowners, property managers, and commercial clients should also explain access limits before the estimate is prepared.

When is refacing a better fit than painting?

Refacing is a better fit when cabinet doors or surfaces need replacement or their structure cannot support paint. Painting suits existing parts that remain sound after inspection and preparation. We check loose veneer, damaged laminate, soft MDF edges, broken frames, and other defects. The consultation helps separate a coating job from a carpentry or refacing job.

Why does cabinet paint peel after application?

Cabinet paint can peel when the surface is dirty, loose, poorly prepared, or unable to hold the coating. The affected area needs inspection before another coat is applied. We look at the material, edges, old coating, and damage, then explain the repair and preparation needed. The right fix may involve painting, refacing, or carpentry.

What does the final cabinet inspection cover?

The final inspection covers the agreed painted surfaces, visible repairs, protection cleanup, and finish details. A lead paint crew member reviews the work with the customer. We also discuss any project details that need attention before completion. This review applies to residential and commercial cabinet work.
